➡️ Guldane Şahin, a sea turtle conservation volunteer, reported that twice as many nests were found this year as last year. It was also the first time in 18 years that Guldane saw giant tortoise tracks, which was an amazing event.
⚫️ Caretta caretta is an endangered species. Turkey is actively involved in their protection and the turtles come to the beaches of Alanya from April to October. In July, August and September, baby turtles hatch from their eggs and head out to sea.
➡️ Guldane has already found 287 nests along a 3-kilometer stretch of beach. She expects to find more than 600 nests by the end of the season. Volunteers are asking vacationers to be more careful and not to place umbrellas and deck chairs on the sand, and to avoid using protective cages for barbecues.
❗️ Authorities and volunteers urge residents and guests of Alanya to take care of nature and help protect sea turtles.
